a feeble desperate cry for broken hearts

if poverty is freedom, than I am in chains
if Love means suffering, then am a wealthy flaunt amongst the beggers,
and parade my health in a hospital ward
if living means dying, then daddy walk with me in hand to the bridge
cause I can't bear to be alive
and don't think there's room in this clay for such hypocrisy

"unless you can part my ribs like the sea
and make stone beat, then there's no hope for me
unless the east never meets the west
unless you set my sin between your shoulderblades
and forget
part my ribs like the sea and change me
'cause stone doesn't beat
and rock hearts don't pump anything
but I've grown not to mind because at least
stone doesn't sling like blood
or spill like guts across the floor
where the bloodsuckers want more and more and more"

the treacherous selection machine

All the workers in their cages
Plagued with latency
With their names written on the pages
Anticipate the day of their destiny
When they will be picked by the authority
To become what they were meant to be.

I still hear the howls, and the screams
Of those ignored
25 years, some far more
It seems that they weren’t all written on the pages
…it seems they weren’t all meant to be.

They fight to believe
Knowing it takes just as much effort to fear
An indolent fate
And they pray for the day of sweet escape
From the cages by the authority.

porn in america

http://www.ajc.com/business/content/business/stories/2009/01/08/flynt_porn_bailout.html
Though it seems this is partially a publicity stunt to make a statement at the ridiculousness of auto industry, and financial industry bailout requests. I would not be surprised if congress granted the $5 billion request
...
“It’s painfully obvious that our sneaky financial connections just aren’t sneaky enough to avoid getting caught these days,” said former president Clinton, speaking to the press from his New York office, a combination Hooters and massage parlor. “On the other hand, the porn people I’m close to have channeled contributions of all kinds of cash and prizes to me over the years. And they’re mostly legal and almost nobody cares. It’s time the DNC recognizes that the porn industry’s support is our best bet for consistent, under-the-table funding that works. Hey, we’re all grown ups here. What did people think was going on with my fundraisers in the Lincoln Bedroom during my two terms? Cash and sex is what makes politics work in today’s world.” - inebrieted press, Jan 2008
http://inebriatedpress.wordpress.com/2008/01/29/hillary-and-obamas-fundraisers-keep-getting-caught/
(on a side note this is one reason I have such a hard time voting for democrats)

If congress will not regulate gas prices with ceilings because the oil companies lobby and fund political campaigns...what does that mean the democrats are doing for the porn industry, if this industry is also funding their campaigns?

righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to all people.

The city’s twilight: suburbia's goodbye

The Lights gleam and autos roar
We are nameless
Just strangers lost in the crowd
Though we’ve always been known before
Twilight in the city is far from
The suburbs we used to know

Colonial houses, monotonous yards.
Apartment complexes
And white picket fences.
With parking garages
at least 10 miles from the freeway
Which may or may not have cars.
And street musicians
Never see
The mothers dropping kids off at school
And homeless drunks
Now the norm.
Strip malls and patches of forest
Now dives, and a concrete slabs
A nightlife never once before.

And the desert children ponder,
They always wonder
What goes on the south side of the mountains
After dusk
where freeways choke
when 12 strikes the 4
until 8
4 ticks more.

They’ll never know,
Until they grow tired
Tired of window glaring
Tired of being caged
In the sea of identical
And want to move on
And become alive.

so far, in 2009, word of the day is losing its reputation.
today's word: abstinence. Yesterday's word: zealous. Really? i learned those two words in elementary school. What happened to the good days of words like: Tetchy, pusillanimous, or brobdingnagian

LA is fun, i think its over though. Its time to move on and do something more with myself.

I ate a nectarine today. along with salad. I am trying to eat healthier.

I am:
tired of not having stable work.
tired of sitting in front of a computer today
hoping and praying Korea will work out in March.
loving hot chip's the warning cd
missing amanda, wishing she was with me
missing mom and dad -- more than usual for being out of their house for 5 years.
wishing i was a better writer.
going to make a phone call.

end.

she is blonde with blue eyes, her name is amanda

the table was set with glasses that glistened off the warm yellow illuminating the table. The fire’s hot breath kept the room cozy from december’s arctic bite in Wasatch. A picturesque scene and perfect venue for a winter wedding. Tucked away at 6000 feet in a national forest with 8000 foot peaks and snow-dusted ground surrounding. I looked into her eyes, and never before had I been so captured. I had never really been attracted to blondes before. Blue eyes say so much more than brown eyes. As she locked eyes on mine, my soul was stolen, and I was teleported to the labyrinth of her thoughts, and emotions. Desire, pain, confusion, joy, frustration, and appreciation for the fleeting moment we were in. This occasion with her only comes once or twice in a lifetime. And she only comes around twice a year. the knowledge of those two thoughts made the experience relationally defining. We had decided to be exclusive despite the 9,000 mile difference between us in september, based on 3 months of knowing each other, and probably 6 dates. It’s amazing how phone communication can maintain a relationship—6 dates and 3 months of communication via telephone did not let me down. Nothing seemed to skip as we saw each other for the first time in 3 months. It actually seemed as though we were dating for 3 months. Granted not seeing each other is hard, but she is a prize worthy of the fight. Never before have I known someone so in love with being fully alive, someone who burns to engage people, life, suffering, Jesus, and culture. Someone who knows what it is to have and to lack, someone who has paid a price of 6 years of hard work for her dreams which are now coming true. Someone who has chosen to live in a country of darkness, and have little so that light can shine and others can have hope in Jesus. Never have a met anyone such a mystery worth pursuing who challenges me, Never have a met someone who does not want the American dream of a house, 3 kids and a dog in suburbia. Never before has my similar sentiments and lack of desire for a 9-5, lemming, cookie-cutter job, and cookie-cutter life – which has left me so confused—made so much sense. Never before have I felt so free with someone while I try to figure out the direction of my life. Never before has life been this hard, but so good. When I met, her, I knew she was leaving in 3 months for grad school. Im not sure why I didn t care. She was a mystery I had to pursue I guess when you are so enticed by a person or a thing you don’t care about circumstances logic. I didn’t care if she responded or not, in fact I didn’t expect her to the way she was apathetic. For some strange reason, after a handful of dates, and 3 weeks of indifference she had a breaking point. And I had found it. Or so her friend talked to her and opened her eyes to see what she was passing up with me and she decided she would give me and give this a chance.

My Heart Grieves...

because...

- the church has been lulled to sleep and deceived
- 3700 babies are aborted in the us every day -- 1 every 24 seconds
- 50 million dreams of God have been destroyed since 1973
- the hearts of fathers are not for their children
- Liberals will pass the bill to legalize the abortion of babies but wont mandate programs to counsel mother's who cant live with the grief and pain of what they have done.
- from what I have seen, (generally speaking) the church has had the same spirit of bitterness and pride that the rest of America has, and has pointed fingers instead of interceding for our Nation's leadership.
- character and integrity in leadership mean nothing to voters in America
- Americans vote in ignorance
- fellow brothers and sisters in Christ put more hope in government than in our God
- fellow brothers and sisters in Christ want to exchange righteousness for rights
- the church has forgotten true intimacy with Jesus
- the church has failed in giving, resulting in thousands--maybe millions-- looking to government to supply their needs
- Church leaders not taken a stand for righteousness for fear of offending and losing people
- Per Obama's progressive stance on the healthcare and the Hyde amendment, my tax dollars and your tax dollars may go towards mother's abortions.
- America is cursed with a lust for money, and among other things will worship a man in leadership more than a creator who formed us and fashioned us out of love.
- the poor in this country do not know that they are more blessed than the CEO's and top executives of fortune 500 companies.

and in the end.
this life should be the culmination of thousands of countless ones who's lives were shaken up, who's sense of purpose, who's understanding of love, who's understanding of God has increased.

His Grace has saved me, His mercy is boundless, His love beckons me.

like eagles born waiting 6 months to fly,
23 years: a patience souvenir
there's fog over this sheltered path
wilderness everywhere now
no end in sight
daddy, lead me home
surrender now, I'll surrender.

4 months of 2008, and into my 24th year

I am turning 23. and going to yosemite this weekend. probably one of the best ways i could imagine to celebrate my golden birthday.

by many standards I am very young, but by my own standard, I am getting old. The good news is that I really am beginning to sense that I truly am in the Lords hands, he has ordered my steps, I am believing my 24th year, this year in 2008 to be the best year of my life so far.

In the last four months, I have had numerous people tell me that my prayers for them have been answered, I have had the privelage of laying hands on a woman with arthritis in her wrist, and seeing her healed completely, and I have also had many people tell me that my prayers over them have been prophetic. God is amazing, it is only by His grace that I should see and be a part of such things. to Him be the glory.

I am sort of at the crossroads right now, looking for a new job knowing that i am destined to do something that i really am not excited about. But in this i rejoice, because my job is not the end of the road, it is this discontent that helps me continue my focus on the Lord and asking Him questions. At the same time it is opportunity for me to worship and work for him. I sort of take refuge in that. knowing that I am working for him, it helps me to be motivated.

I am co-leading a prayer group on monday nights. This has been a great opportunity to see the kingdom, and ask for more of it. This is where I have had the privelage of learning to hear the Lords voice and give prophetic words, and where people have been healed as we have layed hands on them. It is also a place where I have found and given encouragement. The Lord really moves there. It is amazing to be a part of that. It is amazing that he works through us and wants to partner with us for His kingdom on this earth. What a privelage.

I receieved a prophetic word monday night at an African American church down in Crenshaw CA. I was told that new annointings wait for me, and that what I have been asking for is going to be answered this year. Additionally the Lord will grant me what I ask as I continue to pray and press in this year. All I want is just to be able to minister and play music.

I pray that he would open those doors to do that full time.

I just started a new musical project with 2 other guys. It is kind of a shoegaze/experimental/electronic progressive project. I am excited. We are playing our second show April 25. I get to use my electribe, and play drums. and create choas on stage. More importantly, I get a chance to connect with people and see the kingdom come after playing. The music isnt important. People want love, encouragement, acceptance, hope, but most importantly Jesus, more than they want what we could collectively produce onstage with our talents. To forget this is to fail i think with my calling.

My attitudes towards work and activities are starting to change. Matt 6:33 "seek ye first the kingdom...all these things shall be added unto you" is really capturing my heart and my thoughts. I am coming to a place where I want everything I have to be for the kingdom. My going, my coming, my activities, my possessions, my work, everything should be done to further advance the kingdom. Nothing should be an end in itself except to see God's love for his children be realized again and again by those who are searching, and those in need. I think this is what it means to live to our fullest -- to walk and live like this.

I cant wait for what is in store for the rest of this year. I am excited for what the Lord has for you this year. Bless you.

Labor day weekend

labor day weekend: 3 days. 3 golden opportunities to surf, and I do not take any opportunities.

it has been 105 degrees for a high for the past like 5 days. which should further motivate me to get my buns over to the beach. But I still didnt go.

Sunday, jon and i were going to go, but it sort of just turned into a lazy sunday. 3 movies and being couch potatoes.

Last night I was out until 1:30pm, which means I got to bed at 2. Everyone was waking up to leave at 5, so that would have meant 3 hours of sleep. 3 hours of sleep with waves that are 4-6, with the occasional 7 would destroy me.

What happens at 5am? my brother wakes me up, and i feel awful. I am a fool.

I wish I was surfing right now.

Another Exciting Saturday

It has been a while, I know. My apologies to all you who are frustrated by this.

Anyway, Today was a fun day. I had the opportunity to go up to ventura county specifically Camarillo and go to the beach, and hang with a sweet girl that my brother is good friends with.

I didnt really have plans, so I could go with him, or stay at home. I opted to go with him. So around 10:30, we decide to load up our boards and head on up to ventura to hang out with this girl and do some surfing. We get up there to meet up with Jon's friend Amy, who has a gorgeous house, a swimming pool, fruit trees, and a scenic view of some desert mountains in her backyard. Nice house. We head on out around noon, and stop for mexican food on our way to the beach. MMMM mexican. I love mexican, even after 3 mexican meals this week I am still not sick of it yet. it is too good.

We are making small talk in the car, and somehow Amy's plans for tonight come up: "I am going to concert in the park tonight...the gin blossoms are playing"

"WHAT!?!?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???" -- my response.

"THAT IS AMAZING!"

What a blessing. Jon and I picked theright day to go up to ventura. I am excited, the gin blossoms, awesome band of the90's, i didnt even know they were still together. If you remember the great hits they had: "hey jealousy" "Found Out About You", "Until I Fall Away", "Allison Road" "Follow you Down" You know that they are worth seeing, especially if it is free, outside in the park.

We get to the beach, and it is very windy, a tough day to catch some waves, but worth a shot. Jon and I both go out. I catch 2 before getting worked multiple times--skegged and bleeding feet, surfboard collision with my head, flipping over multiple times, and pearling from about 4 feet on top of one crest straight into the bottom of the wave--getting tossed like a rag doll and hoping the board doesnt slice me in the head. A painful, short day of surfing.

We return to Amy's house after the beach to eat some sushi, and pack up some food for an ultimate 5 star picnic at the concert. We pack wine, cheese and crackers, salad, fruit salad, and meet up with amy's sister and her boyfriend, who bring along their own wine selection along with pasta, bread, and orangina beverage (yes, the joke of the night was to pronounce oran-jyna) a tastey picnic and the gin blossoms what could be better?

The Gin blossoms go on. They dont put on the most exciting show, but they are an early 90's soft rock band. You cant really expect a whole lot of energy. They are really tight, and Jesse Valenzuela is on with his vocals. The play all the hits, and a set list that is probably an hour and a half or so. the highlights were hey jealousy, and found out about you. Love those songs. It was great. everyone in their lawn chairs, and 2 "rock crowds" that are standing on either side of the stage.

The show ends, and we head home.

Conclusion: aside from Camarillo/Ventura being cool for te fact that it is where the end of little miss sunshine was filmed, it is a cool place. Concerts in the park in the summers, and its a little more of a suburban area than any places around LA and You can actually see the stars at night. Might be a good place to live when I am ready to raise a family.

bedtime.

gnight friends.

जुल्य ४थ् पार्ट १: थे सर्फ़

Yesterday was July 4th.

July 4th for me has always been spent up on sebago lake in Maine with my family, up until this year.

Yesterday I went down to the OC, specifically at Newport beach. We wanted to get an early surf session in, so we left at 5am to get down there by 6 or so.

We get to newport, and it is a nice morning. Overcast but warm..great temperature. The surf is great, most waves had good organization, and were probably head-high. I actually decide to wait to put on my suit and get in the water, because I sort of just want to chill out and relax. So for about 2 hours, until 8am, I was just sitting out on the beach watchinng all the sufers catch their waves while me and my buddy Jon Morales talk about boy things. I.E. Girls.

so we get in the water and paddle out just far enough past where the waves are breaking to catch some. At this point I start seeing dolphons surface and dive 50 feet or so away. Very cool.
I look back behind me to see a big wave coming and likely to crest a little in front of me. I start paddle forward in hopes to catch it. it catches up with me, annd I am paddling fast enough to catch the crest. I start to feel myself being propelled no longer by my arms, but by the wave. I look to my left and see dophins right next to me in the wave, riding it too. Nothing short of breathtaking. it looks something like this:

Unfortunately I am on my brother's short board, and try to stand up, but fail miserabley. I tank, flip over a couple of times, and my board flys out of my hands. I fall into the wave and grab my head and tuck into the fetal position terrified tat the board is going to come back and slice my head. Fortunately I am ok.

I go back out in hopes to catch another wave. I am able to catch one more before the blackball signs go up, and we can no longer surf.

Another Adventure on the Metro.

today the bus ride home was scary.

A strangely behaving man pulled a knife on the bus driver and stabbed her. Everyone flipped out into sheer panic.

I had no idea what was going on. I am thinking it is a terrorist attack and there is a bomb on the bus. The driver, after struggling pulls the bus to a stop forunately avoids numerous accidents. The bus stops and the doors fly open. I get off the bus as fast as i can like many others on the bus. A police man fortunately is right behind the bus on his motorcycle. We tell him the situation and he calls for backup.

in 30 seconds a fleet of cruisers storm the scene. The knifeman is tackeled to the ground by three cops, and his face is covered in blood.

I am pacing back in forth on the scene, really shaken up, and terrified at this point, not wanting to step foot on another bus again, but yet I am trying to figure out if i should walk or get back on the bus. I walk to the next bus stop thinking its going to be a long time before that lane of traffic clears up where the scene occured. I get back on the bus probably 10 blocks down, and console myself by telling myself over and over again this is a rare occurance it wont happen again.

i get off at argyle and hollywood and walk to my brother's work, and ride home with him.

If anything, this sort of drama really puts the reality of ths world into perspective, and it really makes me grieve.

Adventures Through Hollywood Part 1

I ride the bus to work. Because I cannot afford to drive at $140 a month for parking, and then the cost of commuting. (gas, and car wear and tear). It is usually an hour and a half to two hours to ride in. Probably the worst thing in the world is sitting on a bus with a bunch of strangers with nothing to do for two hours. So I have started utilizing that time to read, pray, and contemplate. When I started riding the bus, I thought it might be an opportunity for me to build some interesting friendships with people I would otherwise never come in contact with.

Today I was sitting on the bus, in a window seat, doing my usual morning read. At one of the Hollywood stops, a very attractive young lady gets on. I look at her, and uncertain if she looked, or noticed me looking at her (she was wearing sunglasses), I just sort of said to myself (PLEASE SIT NEXT TO ME, PLEASE SIT NEXT TO ME) I think I also looked down towards my knees and whispered those words.

And what does she do? She walks down the aisle, probably ganders around to see what sort of seating options are available, and then sits right down next to me. I look left, towards the window, and clench my fist, and say "YES!" in very giddy, yet conspicuous mannner. Then I think, "dang, now if i dont talk to her, I am going to have regrets." The Nate Deardorff Woman Anxiety sets in. Meanwhile, I am in the middle of my chapter, and its a really good chapter on Work, and God's purpose for it in John Piper's "Don't Waste Your Life" (a cheesy title yes, but with 2 hours of bus ride every day, I will take anything on my brother's shelf) This chapter is precisely what I needed to be reading this morning, given my frustrations at work, and trying to figure out if that is where I should be right now. (maybe another blog on that sometime soon). So this beautiful girl is sitting next to me, and I am nervous, and thinking It would be nice to talk to her, but Its not a big deal if i dont because I am busy reading and enlightening myself, and I can justify that trade-off without feeling like I missed too much opportunity. --I think God was just telling me to finish the chapter.

probably 2 minutes go by. I turn the page, and the chapter is over. Now I am thinking. "DANG IT! NOW I DO HAVE TO TALK TO HER OR I AM SERIOUSLY GOING TO REGRET IT!" Divine providence, it just might be.

So I clsoe my book. I also turn off itunes and close my computer.
And now the challenge comes in. I am sitting there thinking "How do i start a conversation, that isnt akward? ...what if she has no desire to talk, and just wants to get wherever she is going? What if she is a stuck-up hollywood girl that makes her boyfriend buy her everything, and again she has no desire to talk, and ignores me?"

After of about 2-3 minutes of questioning these things in my mind, I muster up the gumption to say something along the lines of "where are you headed?"

"huh?" -- her response. In a mild russian accent

caught off guard by her accent but yet turned on somewhat more, I follow up "Are you going into work?"

she looks at me and smiles: "yes"

I reply: "What do you do?"

"I am an accountant"

"nice, I am in marketing myself"

...

from there we carried on a conversation for the next 20 minutes or so, until I had to get off.

Her name is Katy, She is russian in nationality, but grew up in georgia, and now lives in Hollywood and works in culver city as an accounts payable manager
I didnt think to ask how often she rides the bus. And I did not want to creep her out, and give her the idea that I was hitting on her, so I didnt get any contact information.

But...Deep down I am hoping tomorrow and/or some other time this week we will meet up again. en route to wilshire from hollywood and vine, via the metro rapid 780; conversation will pick up where it left off, and I can get her number. Afterall, She knew the bus route pretty well...she probably frequents the bus.

Stay tuned.

some scatterbrained thoughts

So I had the privelage of hanging out again with some new friends. Jon Morales and this awesome girl who is very attractive, Evette. Last week we watched the first matrix movie and threw back a couple of new castles. This week Evette brought some Mexican beer I have never had before, and we threw a couple of those back and watched the matrix reloaded in HD. Good times.

I am realizing that I am really young. All my friends are in the late 20's and some even in their early 30's. It sucks too because I meet a great girl and I find out she is at least 4 years older than me. Man Evette, is awesome...she had the great idea next week to make us burritos, while we watch Matrix Revolutions. A man cannot argue with an attractive women who is offering to cook him food, and Mexican food for that matter. That was an easy yes. Too bad she is 28. Maybe I should just balls up and ask her to hang out some more. I think I am terrified of a "no" because of the age gap, and that might be awkward. Maybe she and other women are just waiting. Hundreds of guys at CA (christian assembly, the church I attend) are not asking girls out...there are tons of girls waiting, but no guys will man up and ask them out. Maybe I need to set an example. There is a picnic this sunday. I am going to have to get some numbers and make it happen.

Wow. I am psyched it is the weekend. This was my first full week of work. I am getting used to it. It is easy work that comes pretty natural to me. A lot of spreadsheets, inputting numbers and formulas. Also I get to meet with some network reps. This week I got to meet with a rep from BET. and Direct TV. Apparantly Direct TV has exclusive rights to the "NFL sunday ticket" meaning they are the only service that provides coverage of every football game. Intersting selling point for them.

I am also getting used to riding the bus to work. Initially I hated it because it takes so much time out of my day. I started reading on the bus this week. I started reading my bible. Maybe God opened this door so that I would wake up early, and be really bored with 1.5 hours of free time, and that would motivate me to read my bible more. It is working so far.

The CEO of the company came for a meeting this week. He is a cool guy. Really down-to-earth. He told us we dont really have a dress code...just wear whatever i feel is appropriate. I might have to try wearing a banana hammock to work sometime and make a good case for how I feel that it is appropriate. If Matt, the CEO saw that. He would probably laugh. But then He would tell me to put some clothes on. With the liberal dress code, I have taken it upon myself to wear jeans to work. so far its been fine.

I also found out today that the asian girl on the otherside of my cube is a Chrisian. I look forward to hanging out with her and having some good conversation.

I need to call the eye doctor tomorrow. My contacts are good for one more week.
I should also call the dentist, and get a checkup. It has been at least 6 months.

I look forward to using my benefits. and I look forward to my first paycheck next week. It will be the biggest one of my life so far, and it will probably go straight to bills. Yes!

Some facts about me and my CA experiennce:

-I eat sushi at least once a week (especially since there are about 6 sushi places within one block of where I work).

-I eat mexican food at least once a week: New favorite mexican place: Poquito Mas: awesome fish tacos. endless chips with amazing selections of salsa.

-Surprisingly, I have not had any coldstone since I have been here. It is a big surprise because there is one within walking distance of my house. (berg if you are reading this, we will have to take a walk down there when you come visit)

-Swork Coffee is my new favorite coffee shop. It supplied me with free internet. Without it, I would not have a job today.

- I finally got up on a surfboard on Memorial Day at Newport Beach.

- my current select beer is new castle, or killians; Captain Morgan and Gingerale is my current select cocktail.

- I go to a karaoke bar in Manhattan Beach on Thursday nights.

-Church is right across the street. I enjoy being able to leave 5 minutes before service starts.

- I work on the 17th floor of a highrise corporate tower on Wilshire BLVD, right across from UCLA, and Drive through Hollywood and Beverly Hills everyday. Supringly, Hollywood is a dump. I would hate to live there.

-I havent seen any celebrities yet. Maybe I have, I just didnt know they were celebrities.

-From my travels up to Northern CA, I could easily see myself moving up there when I get sick of it down here.
